Our Team

At ACENT, each ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor on our Anchorage team is board certified in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. This means they have met the American Board of Otolaryngology’s high professional standards of training and demonstrated knowledge in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery. In addition, Dr. Ellerbe is board-certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, having met that board’s stringent requirements.

Each of our doctors brings to our team his own special interests and focused training, allowing our practice to successfully treat a wider range of patients and conditions. Lora Fowler, Au.D

Audiologist

Dr. Lora Fowler is a licensed audiologist at ACENT serving patients in the state of Alaska. She graduated with a Doctorate of Audiology from Idaho State University and completed a joint externship at the Portland VA Medical Center and the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR). Lora is certified with both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Board of Audiology (ABA), and she is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).

Shannon Fraser, MD

Physician

Shannon Fraser, MD is a board-certified Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgeon. She graduated with honors from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and earned her medical school degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Fraser completed her residency training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She has practiced general otolaryngology since finishing her residency in 2015 and is interested in all aspects of ENT including adult and pediatric care.

David Andrews, MD

Physician

David Andrews, M.D. graduated with honors from Duke University and then worked as a television news producer and reporter for 8 years prior to medical school. He earned his medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago, and then completed residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Chicago. After residency he joined the ENT staff at Alaska Native Medical Center, where he practiced for 14 years and served as the medical director of the ENT department from 2019 to 2022 before joining ACENT.

Dr. Schaffer is board certified in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. After earning a master's degree in choral music from University of Arizona, he graduated with honors from medical school at the same institution. Dr. Schaffer completed his residency in Otolaryngology — Head & Neck Surgery at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. His interest in singing informs his specialized interest in the treatment of voice disorders at ACENT.

Dr. Kowalski earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 2013 after graduating with honors from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA in 2018. Dr. Kowalski is trained and practices in all aspects of otolaryngology including sinus surgery, otologic surgery, and pediatric otolaryngology.

John Kokesh, MD

Physician

John Kokesh, MD, completed medical school at the University of Washington in 1988. He completed 2 years of General Surgery training at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, and then in 1994 completed residency in Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Washington.
