Hearing Aid Fitting

Selecting the optimal hearing aid for your needs is just one step in making sure hearing aids are an effective solution for hearing loss. Before actually fitting the hearing aids, our audiology providers conduct a thorough hearing test to determine what sounds are too soft for you to hear and which sounds are uncomfortably loud. The test results will determine the proper amplification settings for your hearing aids.

After fitting your hearing aids, our audiology providers will:

  • Teach you how to operate and adjust them
  • Offer tips about communicating while wearing hearing aids
  • Demonstrate how to clean and care for your hearing aids

It’s important to remember it takes time to get used to wearing hearing aids. It’s a good idea to write down how certain noises sound before coming in for your follow-up appointment. That will help us fine-tune the devices.

I was in denial about my hearing loss, but after meeting with Dr. Scholl and Dr. Ellerbe they showed me it was possible to hear again. My hearing aids have changed my life.

Programming Hearing Aids

Hearing aids offer either analog or digital technology. Both types amplify sound, but conventional analog hearing aids provide limited ability to adjust the devices to distinguish between speech and ambient noise. Digital hearing aids, which make up the vast majority of devices being used, convert sound waves into digital signals using a computer chip. Programming the hearing aid to selectively amplify certain sounds, such as speech, is a tremendous benefit. Digital aids can also be re-programmed as your hearing changes.
