Eyelash Extensions Alternative in Anchorage, AK | Med Spa at ACENT

The allure of long, thick eyelashes is unmistakable. Mascara is a staple of most women’s makeup bag, and some even use glued‐on lash extensions to achieve the captivating look they desire. Now there is a longer-lasting alternative to eyelash extensions at our Anchorage medical spa. LATISSE, popular with patients from Wasilla, Palmer, and surrounding areas, is the only prescription treatment approved by the FDA to grow darker, longer, and fuller eyelashes.

What Is LATISSE?

LATISSE is a prescription medication that you dab on the upper lash line each night with sterile applicators supplied with the medication. When you blink, medication naturally spreads to the lower eyelashes. Eye doctors first noticed that the active ingredient in LATISSE, bimatoprost, could grow thicker, longer lashes in patients being treated for glaucoma.

Researchers believe that LATISSE works by lengthening the eyelash growth phase, although it’s not known for sure. If you forget to apply it one day, don’t try to make up for it by using it twice the next day.

Benefits of LATISSE

Using LATISSE daily as prescribed can create thicker, longer lashes without the need for eyelash extensions. Besides being an alternative to mascara, false eyelashes, or eyelash extensions, LATISSE also relieves concerns about eyelashes smudging or running from swimming, exercise, or crying.

You may begin noticing changes as little as 4 weeks after you begin applying LATISSE, but it typically takes 16 weeks to see the full results. If you stop daily treatments the lashes will return to their earlier appearance as they are replaced with new growth.

LATISSE vs. Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are an option for people whose natural lashes are thin or short. If they aren’t applied perfectly, extensions can result in lashes that stick together, or the adhesive can stick to the skin itself. This can lead to an unnatural appearance and discomfort when blinking. The first eyelash extension application can take up to 90 minutes, and the lashes last about 4 to 6 weeks before a maintenance treatment is necessary.

A LATISSE prescription helps your natural eyelashes grow longer and fuller without the need for extensions. You apply a single drop at home each day, just like you would use eyeliner. When used as directed, LATISSE can create ongoing results. The initial results take about 4 weeks to be noticeable.

What to Expect

Lashes grow gradually, with the first noticeable changes coming about 4 weeks after the initial application. The maximum growth usually occurs at about 16 weeks. If you discontinue use, your lashes will gradually return to their natural appearance.

Some users might experience redness or itchiness in one or both eyes. Often that occurs if LATISSE isn’t applied properly. We instruct patients in the proper application of the product and encourage them to contact us if they’re experiencing any issues or have additional questions.
