ACENT in the Community
Drs. Ellerbe and Schaffer, and their staff recognize the importance of contributing to the local community. Through direct donations, donation of products and services, and active volunteer efforts by members of the practice, the Alaska Center for Ear, Nose, and Throat has supported numerous organizations in their work to enhance the lives of people in the local community, Alaska, and the world.
ACENT Receives the Mt. Huntington Award
The Anchorage Project Access organization honored ACENT with the Mt. Huntington Award, which is presented annually to health care providers in recognition of their steadfast commitment and generous service to our medically uninsured neighbors. The award is signed by Alaska’s governor, the state’s Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner, and the Mayor of Anchorage.

Anchorage Project Access began serving community members most in need more than 10 years ago and now partners with more than 620 health care providers who donate their services to patients referred by the organization.
The inspiration for the Mt. Huntington Award came in 2007 when a grateful patient sent Anchorage Project Access a large, framed aerial photo of the 12,240-foot peak. The steep rock and ice pyramid in the Central Alaska Range, about 8 miles south of Mt. Denali, is symbolic of the challenges the patient faced when he was unemployed, uninsured, and in need of 2 hip replacement surgeries. Successfully summiting Mt. Huntington after making the steep climb represented his own difficult personal journey to reclaim his health and gain employment.
The entire team at ACENT is proud of the services we provide to those in our community who are in the midst of their own challenges.
