As the days warm up and the sun sticks around longer and longer, the effects of sun damage area on people’s minds more and more. Many of our medical spa patients in Anchorage come to us because their skin has lost some of its luster due to sun damage and aging, and they want to get back that healthy glow. BBL™ BroadBand Light can help accomplish just that, using pulsed light to deliver superior results in photorejuvenation therapy.
How does BBL™ work?
BBL™ delivers pulsed light energy, which heats up the upper layers of the skin. That heat is absorbed by the target treatment areas and stimulates the production of new collagen in skin cells. The results: a more even skin tone, a smooth complexion, reduced redness, and all around younger-looking skin.
The number of treatments needed depends on our Anchorage patients’ individual needs, but we typically space them about 3 weeks apart, and you can purchase them in a package at a discount.
What conditions can BBL™ treat?
BBL™ can treat a variety of skin issues that plague many of our medical spa patients:
- Sun spots
- Age spots
- Vascular issues
- Redness associated with rosacea
The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, hands, chest, and shoulders, because those areas are more likely to be exposed to the harsh rays of the sun.
What can I expect during my BBL™ treatment?
BBL™ has several advantages: It’s quick, it causes minimal discomfort, and it requires no downtime. Sessions can take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.
While most patients experience little to no discomfort, we can provide patients with an anesthetic cream to numb the area if they prefer.
Before the treatment, we apply a cooling gel to the treatment area and provide protective glasses to shield the eyes. The BBL™ laser will deliver pulsed light directly onto the skin, which most patients find to be very tolerable.
Most patients can return to their routine immediately following the procedure. The skin will experience some residual redness, but this typically fades within a few hours. Skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun, so avoiding direct exposure is critical. Wearing a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and protective clothing will help.
